The new radiance of luminaires and their product data
There are detailed planning and decision-making processes behind every well-lit street or impressively illuminated building. In order to provide architects, planners, lighting designers and building owners with the best possible support in these processes, the renowned luminaire manufacturer Hess has opted for a modern product presentation.
The aim is to design an intuitive and appealing product selection on the newly developed website. With a wealth of experience and expertise, myview systems GmbH took on the task of providing the data basis for the new website. The relaunch of the new website was realised together with the web agency Medienreaktor.
Bringing the product range to life
Hess offers a wide range of design-orientated luminaires and fulfils all requirements for lighting design in public open spaces and for the exterior lighting of buildings.
Founded in 1948, Hess has been producing at its headquarters in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany, as well as in Gaffney, South Carolina, USA, since 1997 and employs a total of around 180 people. Hess products and customised solutions are exported far beyond the borders of Europe.

Modern product data presentation par excellence
The website was to focus on the Hess product range. An appealing and functional website was required, as well as extensive product sorting and filtering. A prerequisite for the realisation was the continuous provision of product data.
The product data for the lights in the existing PIM system xmedia was therefore revised, updated and the data status verified. In individual cases, the extent to which the product data corresponded exactly to the data required from an application perspective was checked. Meanwhile, Medienreaktor started programming the newly created website based on the TYPO3 CMS.
Using the xom REST API, the web agency developed a direct interface between the TYPO3-based website and the upstream PIM system xmedia. This allows product data, media data, images and texts to be integrated directly into the website via TYPO3 CMS. The provision of product data is thus completely taken over by xom.products.
As desired, the revised website now offers a visually appealing and detailed product sorting and filtering system.
The diverse range of luminaires is now available for viewing at any time. With little effort and without special expert knowledge, changes can now be made directly to the data, new data categories created or completely new data records added. This is modern product data presentation par excellence.
Another highlight is the creation of product data sheets on the website. Product data sheets for individual products can be generated in PDF format at the click of a mouse. Accessories can be selected for the luminaires, which are then displayed on one or more pages on the data sheet. These contain the latest technical and photometric data, dimensional graphics, installation instructions, etc.
The product-project links are also particularly practical. If corresponding products have been realised in a project, they are automatically integrated into the product presentation. In the same way, it is easy to see which products have been used in projects. Impressive real images round off the product presentation.
